Tough day for Bay sides

It was a bad day at the office for two Bay of Plenty teams at the annual Northern Districts Primary cricket tournament yesterday, with both sides suffering defeat.

Bay of Plenty Lakeland were in with a shout for the majority of their clash with Counties Manukau in Hamilton, posting a solid 150/7 in their forty overs.

Bradley Rumble was in good touch with the bat to top score with 39, while Brayden Wood produced a handy knock of 23 runs.

Set a target of 151, Counties batsmen were made to work hard by the Lakeland bowlers and had to fight for a five wicket victory.

Ben Astwood bowled line and length to finish with two wickets at a cost of 22 runs.

However, Hamilton simply bowled Bay of Plenty Coastland out of the game when the two sides met on day two.

There was some resistance at the batting crease from Tim Pringle and Niven Dovey, who both posted 17 runs.

However, the Hamilton bowlers ripped through the rest of the Coastland line-up to remove the Bay side for just 65 runs.

The Waikato City side cruised to victory in the 12th over, losing just three wickets on the way.

There will be plenty of intensity on day three, with the derby between the two Bay of Plenty sides taking place, putting pride and bragging rights on the line.
