WaiBOP third in premiership table

WaiBOP United have moved into third place in the ASB Premiership thanks to a Stephen Hoyle double in their 2-1 win over Southern United at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin.

Hoyle hooked the visitors into a 10th minute lead and boosted the WaiBOP advantage shortly before the hour mark, finishing into an empty net following good work from Mark Jones.

Andrew Mobberley gave the hosts a lifeline six minutes later but Southern couldn't get back on level terms as WaiBOP moved into the top three.

Southern sit in seventh place, ahead of bottom side Waitakere United on goal difference.

In the round's other matches, Hawke's Bay United beat Canterbury United 2-0 yesterday and Wellington beat Watakere 2-1 last Thursday.

It's WaiBOP's second win of the season and sees the side in equal third spot on six points with Team Wellington, behind Auckland City and Hawke's Bay United, who are both on 10 points.
