Totally terrific wearable arts

It was an evening of creativity, style, and flair at its best when the Totally Thames Wearable Arts Show took to the stage over the weekend.

A packed house at the Thames War Memorial Civic Centre last Saturday night witnessed a number of amazing entries spread across six categories which were paraded down the catwalk by local models.

Event organiser Esther Harris says the judges Mem Bourke, Suella Gray, and Hally Barlow were faced with some truly difficult decisions to make on the evening.

'All the creations were so clever, thought inspiring, and had that wow factor,” she says. 'I'd just like to thank the multiple sponsors, the Totally Thames Crew, and the wonderful, designers, models, and crowd fillers, none of it could have happened without each and every one of you.”

The sections on the evening included ‘Kids Renew, Reuse, Recycle', ‘Teenage Mania', ‘Kiwi As' 'Steampunk', ‘Hat, Hair and Underwear' and ‘The World is Your Oyster'.

Esther says the Supreme Under 18's winner was 15-year-old Zoe Beck of Tauranga, who also competed against the adults in the open sections.

While for a second year in a row Deb Shepherd of Paeroa took out the Supreme Over 18's category winner, with her amazing ‘Kiwi As' design.

Esther would also like to make a special mention to Jessica Edwards from the Hauraki Supported Lifestyle Trust, who she described 'displayed courage and was an inspiration to us all”.
