WaiBOP will look to continue their great form when they take on Hawke's Bay United in Round Three of the ASB Premiership on Thursday night.
The red and blues managed a rollicking 5-1 victory over Waitakere United at QBE Stadium last week thanks to a hat-trick to Wade Molony.
Coach Peter Smith's team made a flying start to the game rated the match of the round with four goals in the first half.
Wade's opener came in the 13th minute as the WaiBOP wide man cut back inside and rifled home beyond Waitakere goal keeper Simon Williams from outside the area.
Just two minutes later Simon gifted Wade his second with an errant pass which the WaiBOP striker collected before rounding the Waitakere ‘keeper and slotting in well from the angle.
Mark Jones made it 3-0 from the penalty spot just before the 20 minute mark after Ross Haviland hacked down the WaiBOP winger after a heavy touch.
Simon's evening got worse in the 43rd minute as he spilled in Marc Evans' free kick before Sean Lovemore gave the hosts hope for the second half with his first goal of the season.
But despite enjoying the majority of possession in the second spell, Waitakere couldn't find a way back into the game, WaiBOP goalkeeper Zac Speedy was sharp when required and the goal post coming to the visitors' rescue midway through the period.
Despite Waitakere scoring a goal to Sean on the stroke of halftime Wade put the match beyond doubt late in the second half.
The side now take on Hawke's Bay at Owen Delany Park on Thursday. Hawke's Bay (4 points) currently sitting third on the points table, are one point ahead of WaiBOP (3 points).
Hawke's Bay also had a solid victory beating Southern United 3-0 at Bluewater Stadium, Napier on Sunday.
Both sides will be wanting to continue their march on current leaders Auckland City FC who lead the competition on 7 points followed closely by Canterbury United on 6 points.
Peter says his side would be giving Hawke's Bay the credit they deserve.
'I watched Hawke's Bay against Auckland and I took the trip down to Napier to watch them against Southern. So from a coach's perspective you've got to do the work,” Smith says. 'I guess you see where their strengths are but more importantly you look at their weaknesses and look to exploit them.
'Hawke's Bay are a descent team, they had a good run last year. We'll give them the credit they deserve. At the same time, we've got to back our skills and be aware if we play how we can play. They've got obviously a bit to fear from us.”
Peter says despite the narrow loss to Team Wellington in round one he is happy with the team's progress so far this season.
WaiBOP versus Hawke's Bay United kicks-off at 7.35pm and is live on Sky Sport.
