It may have been a quiet first glimpse of the new James Bond movie Spectre in Tauranga this morning – but one Bond fan insists that's just how he likes it.
Patrick Gibbons made his way to Tauranga's Event Cinema on Elizabeth Street to catch the 10.30am screening of the multi-million dollar blockbuster, which opens across New Zealand today.

And while the first showing didn't exactly have crowds queueing around the block, the Tauranga local wasn't complaining.
'I like to go the cinema when it's not so crowded,” explains Patrick. 'You're not fighting all the kids, so I picked the time to suit me.
'You haven't kids screaming and yelling, and it's not a hassle getting a ticket. You sometimes get mums with about 15 kids and they spend half-an-hour at the ticket office getting their popcorn!”
The film fan admits he's something of a Bond aficionado, and having watched all 23 of the famous spy's previous movies, he was expecting to get his money's worth from Spectre.
'You know there'll be plenty of action,” he says, 'and they try to outdo the previous film each time they bring out a new one.”
And on actor Daniel Craig, who has now played the lead character four times, Patrick adds: 'He's a very good James Bond. I prefer him to all the others – apart from Sean Connery, obviously.
'He's better than the pretenders. There are rumours that this is his last one, but I've heard he may do another one.
'They throw so much money at him, he'd be a fool to refuse. I get inspiration from watching him.”
Spectre is 148 minutes long and surpassed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban during its opening week in the UK, grossing more than £52 million ($118.6m).
It follows on from 2012's Skyfall – the most successful Bond movie ever.
Spectre (rated M) is now showing at Event Cinemas in Tauranga and Mount Maunganui, and at Rialto Tauranga on Devonport Road.

Hope you enjoyed it. I'll wait for DVD because cinemas are awful places full of ignorant people making a racket and spoiling it for others. Roger Moore is the best Bond. There is no way MI5 would employ a Jock in the 60's. You had to speak the best Queens just to get through the door.
Great film

I saw this last night. In my opinion, Daniel Craig is the best James Bond since Sean Connery. Plenty of action and visually amazing. Ralph Fiennes was good as "M" and the villain, played by Christopher Waltz, was terrific. There has been a lot in the media about Monica Bellucci, at age 51, is the oldest female Bond Girl. I expected her to be the main love interest however she was only in the film for 5 minutes. The main Bond woman was Lea Seydoux. She is a good interest but lacked chemistry with Bond. Action from start to finish. 9/10 for me. The downside was the cinema had a private function on and shut down the foyer for close to 2 hours and no-one was allowed into the foyer to use the toilets or get a drink or a snack. This was poor.Should have been managed better.

He's only been in 4 and one was a remake. I can't tell a word he says. He mumbles. Roger Moore didn't have a hair out of place and spoke so eloquently. Quintessentially English, which Bond is and should be. Showing the riff raff what's what and saving the world whilst dressed in a tweed suit. Tut Tut.
