Making a splash with dragon boats

Looking for something to do as a team building exercise for you and your workmates? Then why not try dragon boating.

The Bay of Plenty Dragon Boat Club will host their annual fund-raiser with the Super 12 Dragon Boat Regatta at The Lakes, Tauriko on November 28.

Teams consist of 12 paddlers (minimum of six females) and one caller. It's a great way to start the busy summer season with a fun relaxing team-building exercise for all shapes and sizes and fitness levels. The club organisers say there is a limit of 28 teams with a minimum of three races per team. So be in quick to register on their website www.sportsground.co.nz/bopdragonboating

There is a compulsory one hour training session for all teams competing at the regatta. Training will be held the week before the regatta on November 21, which will include safety procedures and racing tips.

The regatta is an all-day event starting at 8am and running through to 4.30pm. A prize giving and after party will be held at the Groove Bar on Hamilton Street starting at 6.30pm.

Organisers say boats, paddles, lifejackets and sweeps will be provided. Be prepared to get wet so wear comfortable clothing, no long pants allowed but costumes are encouraged.

Teams are encouraged to bring along tents, gazebos, chairs, picnics and sunscreen. An allocated site will be set aside for each team. Food and drink stalls are on site.
