Boys v Girls: The final countdown

As the All Blacks prepare to take on Australia in the Rugby World Cup final on Sunday morning, the tension in our newsroom has gone up a notch as Zoe and I wait to see 'Who will rule the Rugby World Cup?”

For those of you who may have missed it, my work colleague Zoe Hunter and Olympian Luuka Jones took on Steamers coach Clayton McMillan and myself before the tournament to predict who would win the Rugby World Cup.

Throughout the competition, the two teams have predicted All Blacks' scores, and although the Boys' Team bulit an early lead, the Girls' Team have managed to claw their way back into contention, with the scores now level at 14-14.

So as momentum in the All Blacks and Wallabies camp builds, the same can be said about the Girls versus Boys contest.

Like Wallibies coach Michael Cheika, who now refers to the All Blacks simply as New Zealand, Zoe has resorted to not calling the Boys' Team by our name, instead referring to us as 'you lot”.

I have been told by a reliable source that Zoe believes using our name empowers the Boys' Team!

However, Clayton and I – much like the All Blacks – will simply continue to concentrate on our plan and use skill and experience to eventually come out on top.

Sure, over the last few weeks Zoe has asked Luuka to import some magical tea leaves to help predict the last couple of All Blacks scores. But like All Blacks coach Steve Hansen, our team will let our natural talent guide us to victory.

So here are the two teams' final pick. All team members have chosen the All Blacks to come out on top in the final, so it will come down to what the score difference is between the two sides.

Girls' Team:

Zoe: New Zealand to win by four points.

Reason: It's going to be an intense game – even more intense than last week and a real nail biter. Based on the edge-of-your-seat madness of the semi-final against South Africa, I'm guessing it's not going to be a high scoring affair. My tea leaves have spoken.

Luuka: I'm going for a narrow, one point victory for New Zealand.

Reason: It's going to be a tight and exciting game. I am in London, so will be heading to the pub to cheer on the All Blacks with my fellow Kiwis

Boys' Team:

Greg: I think it will come down to a penalty kick or drop goal, so I'm going with a three point win to the All Blacks.

Reason: I'm going on what happened at the last World Cup, when it came down to a Stephen Donald penalty. In saying that, if the All Blacks bring their A-game there is no team in world rugby who can touch them, and the score will blow out. Let's hope they bring their A-game.

Clayton: All Blacks, no doubt about it. Like Greg, I think it's going to be close but I believe it will come down to a try. So I'm going with a five point win.

Reason: The All Blacks have the best defensive screen in the competition, but are also one of the strongest attacking sides as well. So I expect them to be too strong for the Aussies.
