Mount Bunnings staff strike again

The day after an Auckland-wide strike at Bunnings stores, workers at the Mount Maunganui branch walked off the job on Sunday for the third time.

The action is in direct protest to the company's refusal to compromise on rostering.

'Bunnings wants the power to demand that workers are available for work, but without guaranteeing stable rosters,” said FIRST Union organiser Kirstin Miller.

'Under Bunning's proposals, a worker's start and finish times could change without agreement.

'Even work days could change at the whim of management.”

'This is going to compromise family time for Bunnings workers.”

'Bunnings workers need certainty so they can plan things like their family time and sporting commitments.”

Zero Government Law

Zero hours contracts was the worst piece of law by a government we have seen for decades. It is all targeted for employers and to hell with the workers wondering if they have to go to work tomorrow or next week or what time.Put the Government on Zero for this.

Unscrupulous employers

I hope their bosses from the penal colony across the ditch don't round them up and place them in detention on White island

Conundrum

Bunnings seems to have a policy of employing retired superannuitants who have vast experience and knowledge they are enthusiastic to share, of the products they sell. This is a great advantage to DIY customers, and to the superannuitants who would otherwise sit at home, and probably do not mind odd or changing rostering hours. However it is a distinct disadvantage to younger staff with family commitments. How to compromise is the conundrum

Get used to it

Under this government, what do you expect. They don't give a stuff about ordinary workers, only employers figure in their calculations.
