Twelve years in the world and already a business entrepreneur, Georgia Coughlan is competing in a popularity contest with her crutches invention.
The Tauranga Intermediate student came up with the idea for fitting a pair of crutches together for her school science fair last year – which she won.
Georgia Coughlan is a young entrepreneur who needs the support of people in the Bay of Plenty.
The magnetic crutch-stabilising keepers hold crutches together and have an easy release when the crutches are needed.
She now has her own business selling the sets to Tauranga Hospital and other medical facilities.
The 12-year-old's business has now made the final 20 for the ASB bank's ‘creating futures' online competition for 7-14 year olds to find bright ideas and inventions.
Georgia's mother Viv says she is the only Bay of Plenty person to make the final 20 out of nearly 300 entries from across New Zealand.
People can vote for Georgia at www.asb.co.nz/CreatingFutures/sheep/faceoff.aspx
She is currently sitting at number 15 in the running and would walk away with $600 if she stays in that position.
The winner will win $2000.
Viv says she would love it if people from the Bay of Plenty went online and voted for her.
'She would love it. I just don't have the time to sit at a computer and vote for her all day.
'I'm sure some of them have a whole sweatshop voting for them.”
Viv says Georgia has sold about 100 sets at $25 a set.
Her website is www.geeperskeepers.co.nz/
