Interest rates to stay

Interest rates seem likely to remain low, until at least September, with finance sector experts all anticipating slow progress in the economy.

This is based on a mixture of economic indicators released in the last few days including a household labour survey, which shows unemployment at 6.8 per cent in the last quarter, an unreliable Kiwi dollar and a slow property market.

Last Thursday, Reserve Bank Governor Alan Bollard announced the official cash rate would remain unchanged at this time.

Experts are picking such announcements will continue until at least September this year.
