Run fest for opening season

Two centuries blasted by Element IMF Cadets batsmen opened the Baywide Cup title race in style yesterday.

Batting first Cadets against Cooney Lees Morgan Tauranga Boys College at Nicholson Field – Cadets found themselves in early trouble losing two quick wickets with only 27 runs on the board. But the arrival of Northern Knights batsman Joe Carter and Ben Christensen saw them steady the ship and take the game away from Tauranga.

Joe showed little regard to Tauranga's bowling attack smashing his way to 125. Ben was equal in his aggression smashing an unbeaten 120 before his side declared in the 47th over for 304/3.

There was very little resistance from Tauranga with only player/coach Tim Clarke hitting a 47 not out. However, the side were dismissed for 108.

Cadets bowler Sean Davey grabbed three wickets for six runs with Donavan Deeble and Lou Brook grabbing a brace.

In the Eves Realty Greerton versus Bay of Plenty Indians match at Pemberton Park. The visitors batted first but could only put on 66 runs. The only resistance shown by the Rotorua Indians was opening batsman GS Gargan who scored 45 runs. Greerton leg spinner was the best of the bowlers picking up four wickets from seven runs.

However, Greerton made difficult work of the miserly target with the side regularly losing wickets. Rotorua had their bowlers G Billing and T Yadav to thank for the fight back with both grabbing three wickets apiece.

New World Te Puke headed to Rotorua to take on Bayleys Centra at Boord Park with the home side posting 136 with Ben Blackett scoring 38 runs. But Te Puke's new recruit Tom Waklin taking four wickets. Te Puke's Stephen Crossan played a captains knock racking up an unbeaten 67 with team mate Tai Bridgman-Raison also adding 46 runs to lead their team to a good win.
