‘Steampunk' is a subgenre of science fiction that celebrates steam-powered technology and is often set in an alternate, futuristic 19th century Victorian England – think H.G. Wells and Jules Verne.

The festival is being run by voluntary organisation Steampunk the Thames Inc. and its committee of ten members who each bring a wealth of talent, fresh ideas and a passion to 'art up Thames”.

Festival organiser Deb McDonald Brown says there will be plenty on offer for everyone and anyone during the festival.

'We've created this festival to celebrate Thames' own blend of art, heritage and culture, inspire and stimulate local talent, showcase local art and creativity and attract visitors to town,” she says.

'There will be stuff to do and make for adults and children alike and time to take in Thames artisan and café culture, unique shops and frontier hotels which underlie the ethic of steampunk.”

The organisers have line up a number of great events, workshops and competitions that are guaranteed to energise and inspire crowds.

Events includes the Bella Street Pumphouse Steampunk Ball, Mad Hatter's Steampunk Convention, the 'Punk Your Ride' car parade, the Steampunk Street Carnival plus the Wild West Burlesque show.

'Our brand new steampunk festival of the arcane and thaumaturgic arts will crank up a head of steam with an action packed, fun filled weekend of high energy hoopla for grownups and young people alike.”
