Sunshine has made a welcome return to the Bay of Plenty and is expected to stick around for a while.

While many places around the country are expected to have a bit of a wet weekend, the MetService is expected to be relatively fine.

Mostly fine weather is being forecast for the region.

Meteorologist Emma Blades says even Sunday is looking good.

'There might be the odd shower around in the afternoon and by Monday and Tuesday there will be some occasional showers. That will be a bit of cloud around and the odd shower. It's not too bad, compared to what we have had where it has been ‘where the heck is the sun'.

'The rain is mainly around the ranges, especially in the Eastern Bay. Other places will see more rain, but the Bay is in a sweet spot and is expected to see only a few drops of the wet stuff.”

Daily highs are expected to sit in the late teens, with overnight lows expected to be around the 7-8 degree mark.
