Following a blustery Thursday night across the Bay, more settled weather is promised over the weekend after the current frontal systems are blown off the country by south-westerly winds.
'The high pressure currently sitting over the Tasman Sea begins to make its presence felt on Saturday,” says MetService meteorologist Angus Hines, 'bringing calmer weather and clear skies for many places this weekend.”

While the high pressure looks set to persist into the start of next week, a weak front may sweep across the country later this weekend, bringing cloud and a few showers to some places.
Meanwhile the cold front marching over the South Island is expected to bring some snow showers to the Desert Road above 700 metres this morning.
Up to 1cm of snow may accumulate near the summit.
Out at sea, the 25-knot south-west winds forecast for Saturday morning are expected to ease to 15 knots by the evening, before changing late on Sunday to 15 knots and easing early on Monday.
