Eb & Sparrow fly into art gallery

More awesome music is set to echo through the Tauranga Art Gallery, with folk band Eb & Sparrow due in town next week.

The Wellington-based five piece band, who've been gaining a ton of attention across New Zealand, will bring their tunes to the gallery on Thursday, September 17, from 7pm.

No matter where they play they've been winning over audiences – from city bars to folk clubs, festivals to house concerts.

'Not only with their songs, but also with their cheeky wit, hilarious tales, and dynamite performances,” says a gallery spokesperson.

'The songs are proudly soaring and grounded, dark and bright, dreamy and direct, country and Spanish, 1850s and 1950s, delicate and propulsive, all the while lamenting and laughing.”

The hard working band have opened for a string of international acts including folk star Beth Orton, the sugar man himself Rodriguez, and Pokey LeFarge.

Over the past three years they've toured relentlessly, which has seen them share stages with the likes of The Eastern, Marlon Williams, Delaney Davidson and The Warratahs.

'Expect lap-steel, trumpet and electric guitars swirling colourfully above solid and sensitive rhythm playing, moving effortlessly between a country shuffle, a Tex-Mex croon, and a hazy hooning workout,” adds the gallery.

Eb & Sparrow play the Tauranga Art Gallery on Thursday, September 17, at 7pm. Tickets cost $25 for general admission, $20 for Friends of the Gallery and students, and are available on the door or by calling the gallery on: 578 7933.
