Call out for cricket coaches

Tauranga cricket enthusiasts interested in improving their coaching skills will have an opportunity to do so with a series of coaching clinics this month.

Bay of Plenty Cricket is widely regarded as one of the most successful minor cricket associations in the country over the last decade.

Multiple Northern Districts Fergus Hickey Rosebowl titles, along with four successful Hawke Cup defences, suggest the Bay of Plenty Cricket Association has one of the best player pathways in NZ cricket.

And hand-in-hand with the player pathway is a top-quality coaching programme which has seen former Bay of Plenty senior men's coach James Pamment progress to coach the Northern Knights.

Over the next two weekends, Bay of Plenty Cricket is running a NZ Cricket Level One Coaching course at Tauranga Boys College. The NZC level-one course is the first of three sequential courses in the NZ Cricket Coaching pathway.

The NZC level-one coaching lessons are primarily designed for coaches stepping up to eleven aside age group (9-18 years) cricket.

It is expected that prospective level-one coaches will have playing experience and/or knowledge of the game.

The qualification is also a stepping stone for senior club coaches and useful for current players who seek to go and play in the Northern Hemisphere.

The NZC Level One course focuses on detailed planning and evaluation, understanding and using the principles of biomechanics to coach, analysing and improving skills, understanding the coaching process and effective coaching including tactics.

A third ND Cricket Art of Coaching evening returns to the Western Bay of Plenty on Wednesday September 16. Attending the courses will be Pamment, alongside NZ cricket legend Lance Cairns.

The Art of Coaching evening is ideal for aspiring level-one coaches. However, anyone intending to coach cricket this season is welcome and will benefit from the panel discussion delivered by the coaching team.
