strong>The best junior rugby teams from Western, Eastern and Central Bay of Plenty will go head-to-head to be crowned the top club at the Champion of Champions tournament today.

The action takes place in Rotorua, Papamoa and Opotiki and will see the top Under 9 to Under 13 teams from the three areas slugging it out against each other, with kick off due at 10.30am.

Playing today at Westbrook Park in Rotorua are U11 teams Mount Marlins (WBOP), Kawerau (EBOP) and Kahukura (CBOP); U12 teams Te Puna (WBOP), Te Teko (EBOP) and Whakarewarewa (CBOP); and U13 teams Greerton Marist Black (WBOP), Kawerau (EBOP) and Whakarewarewa (CBOP).

The U10's tournament will be played at Gordon Spratt Reserve in Papamoa and sees three teams taking to the pitch: Papamoa Orange (WBOP), Paroa (EBOP) and Reperoa (CBOP).

While the U9's division will be contested between EBOP team Te Teko who go up against CBOP team Kahukura at Boord Park, also in Rotorua.

CBOP Rugby Sub-Union chairman Rob Beckett says conditions are absolutely perfect for today's tournament with blue skies and very little breeze.

'It's going to definitely be an exciting tournament today with some great match-up's taking place,” says Rob. 'This is the pinnacle of their season and all the players look very excited and ready to get out on the field.

'These are the best teams in each of the three sub-unions, and now they'll find out who is the best in the Bay of Plenty for each age group.”

One match Rob's particularly looking forward to is the match up between Kawerau and Whakarewrewa in the U13 division.

This year Kawerau played in the central BOP competition due to a lack of U13 teams in the eastern region.

'During the round robin Kawerau beat Whakarewarewa, but in the final Whakarewarewa beat Kawerau. So they're one each and today is the game - both teams are honed up.”

In the U11 to U13 grades, each team will play a total of two games consisting of 25 minute halves, with a five minute break for half time. The winner in each grade will be decided on points.
