CMB chair Jan Wright says about 12 performers aged from 7 to 70 will be appearing in the upcoming showcase and includes three bands, three soloists, two pianists, one choir, a singing duo and a poet.

Auditions were held at the beginning of August and the judging panel were thoroughly impressed by the calibre of talent in the Mercury Bay.

'We didn't actually need to decline anyone because there were all wonderfully good which is fantastic,” says Jan. 'They were all of a very high standard and we cannot wait to put them on show for the community.

'There's a good mix amongst this group and most have some experience performing in front of an audience, but it's not something they do daily or every weekend.”

Jan explains The Bay's Best is an opportunity for Mercury Bay performers to showcase their talents to a local and loving audience.

The first concert was held back in 2013, but for this latest instalment Jan says they have altered the format slightly.

The first half of the upcoming show will be entirely devoted to showcasing the talents of the 12 local performers.

The second half will then feature a performance by The Burtones – a jazz band from Auckland's King College who will be collaborating with the Mercury Bay Big Band on the evening.

'For the second half of the concert we'll also clear a space to allow the audience to get up for a dance which will be an absolute blast.”

Jan says the performers are now busily getting themselves prepared ahead of the August 29 concert.

'You can tell there's quite a buzz amongst the performers, it's quite cool to see,” says Jan. 'Some nervous about how they will sound and be received, but nervousness is just a part of performing.

'Each and every one of them are doing extremely well and I'm very confident this is going to be an exciting show.”
