Speedster busted at almost 200km/h

An illegally modified Subaru Impreza caught doing almost 200km/h on State Highway 1 is just one example of drivers caught speeding on Waikato's roads recently.

Waikato Police say those caught travelling at excess speeds should get used to walking, busing or cadging a lift.

This modified Subaru Impreza was caught doing close to 200km/h. Photos: Supplied.

'Totally unacceptable” is how Inspector Freda Grace, describes the latest incidents.

'The first incident occurred about 10.20am on Sunday when an officer stopped a southbound Subaru Impreza on SH1 between Taupiri and Horotiu travelling at about 194km/h.

'When stopped, the 21-year-old Waiuku man was arrested and his license suspended.

'His illegally modified vehicle was impounded and he faces a charge of unnecessary exhibition of speed.”

Freda says Sunday's incident followed an arrest the night before of a highly intoxicated driver involved in a non-injury crash on Hamilton's Te Rapa Road.

'In that incident the driver drove his car across the road into a parked car,” says Freda. 'When breath tested that driver returned a breath alcohol result of 1362mgs.

'A motorist stopped yesterday morning travelling at 137km/h in the 70km/h restricted speedzone outside Whitikahu School also had his license suspended.

'So the message is clear: Pay no heed to your speed and you will be held to account, lose your license and end up walking to work or catching a bus.”

Freda says motorists wanting to do their part in keeping Waikato roads safe are encouraged to make use of the *555 phone.

'Otherwise you can do your part by telling that person you're travelling with to slow down,” she adds. 'You may just save a life.”

Let's teach this idiot a lesson and crush the car to set an example. We don't need these hotted up cars on our roads threatening lives of others.

The Australian idea of the offenders car being crushed on the 3rd time charged with hooning is a possibility? Evidently they make them watch their pride and joy squished to about the height of a shoe box. Might get a few of these idiots to think a bit more before spinning wheels or outlandish speeding?

All Offenders

It shouldn't make a difference if your a speeder or a drinker or even a person who runs red lights fails to give way and obey basic road rules the consequences should all be the same .

CRUSH that car, and make the fellow walk , bus, or get rides with his mates . That would be a great opportunity to teach these fools NOT to do stupid things while his mates transport him around and he tells them about his crushed car

Really!?

While I don't agree with driving at this speed on the open road- because it puts other people in danger. Have we thought about that the chap MIGHT actually be a half decent driver? He MIGHT be experienced driving at those speeds. Not all young drivers are bad drivers, like not all older drivers are better drivers just because they are more experienced.....

Young people behave like this because they have not had discipline instilled in them from an early age. In this bleeding heart, PC correct society that has taken hold over the last 3 or more decades with not being allowed to discipline children they know nothing else other than getting away with everything they want to. You can't blame the kids (don't get me wrong I don't condone what has been done here) we have to blame ourselves for letting this stupid PC rubbish over rule common sense. As the old saying goes "Spare the rod and spoil the child."

I reckon...

Making them watch it get crushed, then they can take it home as a momento would be good.... they could lean it against the fence near the front door, so when they get into their next car, they will remember what happened to the previous one.

Illegally modified vehicle and travelling at that speed this is the recipe for a decent driver. Its an idiot on a power trip.

This arrogance goes beyond driving. Its their attitude to drinking, the "me me" attitude, manners, the Police/Law, self-respect, drugs, elders, authority. Yes not all are like this but there is definitely an "extreme element" with youth. Boy racers seem to think there is "glory" in death behind the wheel.
