Greerton Marist's Under 13 rugby team has nabbed the Western BOP championship shield, after three straight years in the final.

The team had won the under 11 title, then narrowly missed out on the title last year.

Today's championship win was decisive however, with Greerton Marist Brotherz prevailing over Mount Maunganui Sports 31-15 at Te Puna's Maramatanga Park this afternoon.

Greerton were down 10-5 at half time, with the Mount looking decidedly dangerous with the breeze at their backs.

Greerton, however, played with the wind in the second half and pulled off a major strategy change to quickly turn the tables with a brace of tries.

Some hard work in the forwards and some well-placed kicks into space, kept them in territory and points.

Mount struck back to close the score to within nine points but Greerton replied with another converted try to put the match out of reach.

Greerton Marist now play off against the other best clubs in the Bay to decide the champion of champions.
