Head Coach Clayton McMillan's focus for the match was same as last week, with the teams focus directed at achieving small team goals, and to see some individual and collective intent.
It was a game of two halves, with two Bay of Plenty teams selected to face the visiting team, providing the players the final opportunity to put their hand up for a starting spot in the first ITM Cup match of the season against North Harbour next Friday at ASB Baypark Stadium.
The pre-season curtain raiser between Te Puke Girls' High School and Tauranga Girls' College provided a fantastic display of Secondary School Girls' College Rugby.
Te Puke Girls' High School ran away in the first half, thanks to their winger Kororia Heyblom, to lead Tauranga Girls' College 18 – 0 at the break.
During the second half, Tauranga Girls' College began to chip away at the score line, however, Te Puke proved to be too strong with Heyblom scoring another two tries to walk away with a 31 – 20 win over Tauranga Girls' College.
The weather wasn't looking promising during the morning; however by kick off the sun shown down on the Tauranga Domain for the 2pm kick off.
There was little between the two teams for the first 25 minutes, jostling for position on attack and proving to be strong on defence.

A rolling maul led to the first points on the board with Sabastian Siataga, touching down over the line, giving the team a 5 – 0 lead.
Unfortunately Dan Hollinshead missed the conversion just left of the uprights. The jostling continued for the two teams with both teams not letting up on defence.
The final points for the half came on the whistle, Manawatu giving up a penalty for offside in front of the posts.
Hollinshead successfully converting the penalty to take the lead to 8 – 0 at the break. With a new team on for the second half, the intent of the Steamers was clear, to further increase their pressure on attack and maintain a strong defensive line.
The Steamers were eager to extend their lead over last year's ITM Cup Championship winners, and did so through a driving maul seeing Aidan Ross over the line.
Nick Evemy's conversion missed falling to the right of the uprights, leaving the score 13 – 0 following thirteen minutes of play in the second half.
As the match progressed, the Steamers continued to hold their form. Demonstrating continuity on attack and committing to a strong defensive line, leaving the Manawatu team scoreless for the match.
Openside Johan Bardoul, returning from injury had the final say of the match, crossing over the line in the thirty fifth minute. Evemy unable to successfully convert the Bardoul try saw the Steamers team coming away with the pre-season win 18 – 0 over the Manawatu Turbos.
Next week the team will face North Harbour at ASB Baypark Stadium kicking off at 8.05pm in what will be their first test of the season.
