A 21 year man is recovering in Rotorua Hospital after a two car crash on State Highway 33. The two vehicles collided at about 5.30pm on Tuesday near Paengaroa.

The sole male occupant travelling in one of the vehicles sustained minor shoulder injuries.

Five others travelling in the second vehicle were not hurt.

The van and car blocked State highway 33 for a brief period.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
