Sun to shine across the Bay

Bay of Plenty residents woke to a chilly start this morning, as the tail end of an icy southerly flow moves off the country.

Snow and ice has seen the closure of State Highway 1, through Waiouru to Tangipo, while SH5, between Taupo and Napier, has now reopened.

Fine weather is being forecast for the Bay, with cloudy conditions expected to move in on Friday and Saturday.

'A ridge of high pressure begins to build over the country, with winds easing and showers clearing from most places,” says MetService meteorologist Peter Little.

'This incoming high means much of New Zealand, especially inland places, can expect another round of frosty mornings this week.”

Daily highs are expected to remain at around 16 degrees, with overnight lows of five degrees predicted. The high remains in charge through Wednesday and Thursday, with fine, frosty weather and light winds forecast for a number of places.

On Friday a northerly flow develops, bringing with it increasing cloud and a few showers to northern New Zealand and the West Coast.

'Looking further ahead, a trough is set to bring unsettled weather to much of the country this weekend, so if you're planning outdoor activities it would pay to keep a close eye on the forecast,” says Peter.
