Lack of surf halts surfing comp

Predicted stormy conditions and a lack of surf have forced the postponement of the inaugural Christian Surfers NZ's Battle of the Groms Junior Surf Competition.

The competition was scheduled to be held at Mount Main Beach today, but Mount Maunganui chapter organiser Naomi Cranston says they have now moved the event to sometime in August.

The Christian Surfers NZ's inaugural Battle of the Groms Junior Surf Competition has been postponed until next week.

'It all depends on the weather. We are hoping to hold in the first weekend of August but we will have to keep an eye on the conditions.”

Naomi says they made the decision to postpone the event due to the forecast of heavy rain this afternoon.

'We thought it would be cool to do something over winter for the younger kids as the older ones are over competing in Australia at the moment.

'We don't want the younger generations to feel like they are left out in the cold.”

Christian Surfers NZ's Mount Maunganui chapter also regularly hosts local surf events, charity contests, fun surf days, movie nights, hangouts and the odd mission to Matakana Island.

During winter there are fortnightly surf roadies to Raglan and other surfing hot spots, or when the Mount surf break is scarce.
