If you want to get amongst it, you will need to book a slot at the auditions which are being held at The Mercury Bay Area School Theatrette on Saturday, August 1, from 9.30am 4.30pm.
CMB chair Jan Wright says The Bay's Best is an opportunity for all Mercury Bay performers to showcase their talents to a local and loving audience.
'It can be hard for artists to get an opportunity to perform in such a public situation,” explains Jan. 'This concert will feature a selection of performing arts and we encourage everyone who would like to audition to jump in and give it a go.”
'We have space for about 10-12 different performances on the night and we're looking for artists of all types and of all ages, from school aged children to adults.”
For the auditions there will be a panel of five judges who will assess each performer and decide who will be selected for the August 29 performance.
But it is absolutely imperative for all performers to remember that these judges are not simply just looking for the best.
'We certainly won't be unpleasant about it, we are there to inspire artists, to encourage people not discourage. There will be none of that Simon Cowell stuff going on I guarantee you!”
Creative Mercury Bay have just started advertising the August 1 auditions but Jan says the response so far has been particularly pleasing.
A number of people, including a local poet and a couple of school bands, have registered for an audition so far and the trust is confident they'll have a good pool of people to choose from.
'I am very confident that the quality of our talented artists and performers will blow the audience away on the night.”
The first Bay's Best was held in 2013 but for this latest instalment Jan says they have altered the format slightly.
The first half of the August 29 concert will be entirely devoted to showcasing the talents of the 10 or so local performers.
While the second half will feature a performance by The Burtones – a jazz band from Auckland's King College who will be collaborating with the Mercury Bay Big Band on the evening.
The Burtones will also be holding a workshop with music students from Mercury Bay Area School on the Friday before the concert.
'They are just amazing young musicians who are highly, highly skilled. The second half is going to feature a very big sound.
'For the second half of the concert we'll also clear a space to allow the audience to get up for a dance which will be an absolute blast.”
