A 4-1 loss wasn't the result they were hoping for, but getting to rub shoulders with some NRL superstars at the Warriors' hallowed turf has given the Te Puke Tigers Under-9 side a taste of the big time.
On Sunday, the boys from Te Puke ran out at Mt Smart Stadium in the curtain raiser to New Zealand Warriors versus Melbourne Storm - the ultimate chance to show off their budding playing abilities.

Taking on the Papakura Jaguars, the Tigers' were unable to give their 100-strong band of parents and supporters a win, going down four tries to one in front of a crowd of more than 15,000.
Nonetheless, it was still a magical experience for all involved says Te Puke Tigers Rugby League Club game day manager David Taffart.
Taffart says a standout for the side was Hakaraia Whareaorere, who brought the crowd to their feet with a big fend, and also a try saving tackle where he "rag dolled" the opponent into touch.
Following the match, the side formed a guard of honour for the Melbourne Storm, collecting high fives from NRL stars Cameron Smith, Copper Cronk and others.
They also managed to get on TV in the crowd shot, receive a goodie bag from the Warriors and have injured wing Manu Vatuvei sign memorabilia.
To top the day off, the Warriors came out victorious 28-14 in a display headlined by hooker Nathan Friend's freakish offload and another Shaun Johnstone masterclass.
David says there are now great pathways set up for the next generation of Kiwis to get a shot at the NRL - evident with the Brisbane Broncos teaming up with Upper Central Zone Rugby League and hosting training camps for promising teenagers.
'So watch this space,” he says. 'I honestly believe that within the next five-to-15 years we will be seeing one, if not more of ours kids running around on our TV screens.”
Te Puke Tigers Rugby League Club chairman Shane Joyce says it is a huge moment for the young players and all involved, admitting he was even jealous of their feats.
'It's a huge thing,” says Shane. 'I'd go and play on Mt Smart for 20 minutes if I was given the opportunity.”
The Tigers have a home game this Sunday at Centennial Park (9.30am).
