Ice watch on regional roads

Drivers leaving the region via State Highway 29 are being warned that temperatures were registered at freezing earlier today.

Dawn patrols checking conditions on the Kaimai Range reported zero degrees air temperature, says Bay of Plenty road policing manager senior sergeant Ian Campion this morning.

No ice was reported on the Kaimai road or on Pyes Pa Road adds Ian, but drivers are warned to take extreme care.

Ice warnings have been issued for other Bay of Plenty highways, with ice reported on State Highway 30 from Rotoma To Te Teko.

Motorists are also being warned of ice on SH5 south of Rotorua, from Whakarewarewa to Golden Springs.

However, a similar warning on SH2 through the Karangahake Gorge that was issued on Sunday has not been repeated.

State Highway 2 through the Waioeka Gorge is open, but motorists are advised to take care because of snow and ice.
