New interchange opens

The Mangatawa interchange on SH2 is going to open to traffic on Wednesday, connecting SH2 to Sandhurst Drive.

It's just the SH2 Sandhurst Drive entry/exit that will be open, the Truman lane section is to be opened at a later date, says the NZ Transport Agency.

The Mangatawa interchange opens for traffic on Wednesday.

There is no cycle or pedestrian access from the interchange onto SH2.

As next month's opening date of the $380 million toll road nears, there is also a rash of last minute works going on around access to the TEL over the next week or so.

Today traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction with a 50km/h temporary speed restriction in place to allow final road surfacing to be undertaken at the Kairua Road / State Highway 2 on-ramp.

The on-ramp will be closed between 9am and 4pm. Drivers are advised to use the alternative route via Welcome Bay Road and State Highway 2.

There will also be at times a manual stop/go along with a 30km/h temporary speed restriction on Domain Road between Tara Road and The Gardens Drive, to allow the construction of a driveway entrance to be undertaken, also between 9am and 4pm.

On Monday there will be a manual stop/go and 30km/h speed restriction on Parton Road between 9am and 4pm to allow replacement of a street light.

A 50km/h temporary speed limit remains in place on the Domain Road/Tara Road intersections.
