Police say the male driver of a car that crashed on the Kaimais on Thursday afternoon is complaining of back pain that may require more hospital checks.
Acting Traffic Sergeant Andrew Crockett says the vehicle left the road on a moderate left hand bend uphill from the Old Kaimai Road intersection about 12.15pm.
He says the 29 year old driver and a 24 year old female passenger were travelling towards Tauranga when their vehicle crossed the right hand lane and left the road.
It crashed over a bank onto its roof before coming to rest on its wheels in a roadside paddock.
The man is today in Tauranga hospital in a stable condition. The woman was uninjured.
Enquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing, says Andrew.
He reminds drivers that roads are likely to be particularly slippery in rain after a dry spell.

The bank the car went down.

Some of the wreckage left in the car's wake.
