Written and performed by Ralph McCubbin Howell, it uses puppetry, props, light, shadow and the imagination to create the family-friendly show that is suitable for everyone aged eight years and older.

Director Hannah Smith says the show brings to life the magic of a pop‐up book.

'We loved the idea of doing something intimate and personally engaging – like the experience you have when you actually read a book.”

The Bookbinder won Best Theatre and Best in Fringe at the New Zealand Fringe Awards, an International Excellence award at the Sydney Fringe and recently the BDO Children's Theatre award at the Fringe World in Perth.

During the 2014 Escape! Tauranga Arts Festival The Bookbinder sold out and due to demand a second show has been added for its return performance at Baycourt.

On June 30 there will be two performances; the first – which has sold out – will run from 6pm to 6.45pm, while the second and final performance is on stage from 8pm to 8.45pm.

Baycourt manager Megan Peacock Coyle says they are passionate about bringing quality children's and family theatre to Tauranga.

'To have affordable, award‐winning kids' shows like The Bookbinder here at Baycourt is something we're really proud of.”
