Bay of Plenty Wheelchair Basketball team captain Shane Davies says despite not winning any games, the day has been a great day.

'We've played great as a team and have improved throughout the day.” There are five people in a team and the rules are the same as able bodied basketball.

Shane says there have been a few alterations to the rules for chairs but it's basically the same as normal basketball.

'It's supposed to be a non-contact sport, but it's not and when it's played well, it's a good game to watch.

'We are always looking for more players with disabilities out there. Even if your able bodied and want to have a go, there is always room,” says Shane, a national team player.

The Northern League is the build up to the nationals in September. That all builds up to the national team going overseas.

The national team are training for South Africa in August.

'It's a great sport, lots of fun. There have been a few falls but there have been no ambulances needed.”
