Squash trophy home in Te Puke

The Regional Secondary Schools Division 1 Squash trophy is in Te Puke today after the Te Puke High School girls won the competition in Rotorua yesterday.

It's been a few years since they won gold, having to settle for silver.

Te Puke High School won the Regional Secondary Schools Division 1 Squash Tournament.

'The final was close!” says team manager Jenny Wotten.

'Both teams had each won two matches and the last girls to play each other were very evenly matched so it was so awesome to win.

'Te Puke High School girls were in the top division and played Taupo first, winning five out of 5 matches.”

They then played Lakes and won three out of their five matches.

The winning team was Abby Wotten, Lucy Carter, Amy Horscoft, Chanel Wotten, Ashley Taylor and Rachel Schultz.

'Three of these players are Year 13 students (so are in their final year at college) but they have some very strong players coming through for next year also,” says Jenny.

The team will be competing next at Nationals which will be held in Palmerston North from August 7-9.
