Over 30,000 expected at Bayfair

Bayfair management anticipate more than 30,000 people will walk through the shopping centre's doors on Boxing Day to take advantage of major discount sales.

Large crowds have been constantly flowing through the complex for most of Sunday.

Bayfair duty manager Duane Beamsley says hundreds of people were queuing outside when he arrived at 7.30am.

The mall will be open for extended Boxing Days hours this year, operating between 8am and 6pm.

Duane says they decided to extend the hours because large crowds continued to arrive at the complex after it closed at 5pm last year.

'The centre has been really buzzing today. It's been very, very busy.”

About 30,000 people walked through the mall's doors in 2009, but Duane says that will increase this year.

'Last year was a huge success but I think this year will out-do last year.”

'I've been here for the last three years during Boxing Day and there's so many people, everyone's in an excited mood, but I think we're going to have more people today.”
