Ride the bus, less Fieldays fuss

With the traffic for the National Fieldays peaking today Waikato Police are urging motorists to use free bus services or consider carpooling where possible.

Waikato District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Freda Grace says historically, Friday of Fieldays is typically the heaviest day for traffic.

'Our Road Policing staff are already noticing much heavier volumes of traffic this morning, compared with the previous two days,” says Freda. 'We want everyone to have an enjoyable day and if taking the bus or carpooling is an option then that will certainly make things easier.”

All main routes will be affected, including State Highway 1 through Hamilton, State Highway 1B and State Highway 3 from Te Awamutu to Hamilton.

Buses are free from the Hamilton Transport Centre to Fieldays by simply showing your ticket to the event, as is car parking at the Knox Street car park.

Buses leave every half an hour until 11am and then return every half an hour from 2pm.
