Perry siblings play Mount stage

Brothers Regan ‘Little King' and Sasha ‘FTW' Perry will be aiming to blow the roof off of the Mauao Performing Arts Centre on Saturday.

Fresh from appearing on TVNZ's Good Morning and Te Kaea, Regan and Sasha will be joined on stage by Whakatane's Tigerhour, Tauranga's The Black Skunk Tomb and Te Kuiti's FTW Band.

Along with more than three hours of great home-grown music you'll also be helping Regan and Sasha raise funds for their North America tour later this year.

'I went on a six weeks tour to the United States last year and made some really great contacts,” says Regan. 'Things worked out really great so it's about keeping the ball rolling and taking my brother with me this time.

'This time we're going to tour California through Santa Cruz, up to Colorado, Kansas, Chicago, Balitmore and Washington DC. If we can get a gig in New York we'll take that too.

'Our little brother also lives in Washington DC and it'll be the first time Sasha has seen him in five years, so it's going to be pretty cool.”

In the Perry whaanau there are four brothers, all of them write and play music, but Regan and Sasha are the only two who perform together on a regular basis.

Regan says: 'I'm always stoked to play music with anyone in our family.”

It's been busy time for the Perry brothers who appeared on Good Morning and Te Kaea last week to promote their new singles ‘Blind Bird' and ‘Still Not Home'.

There won't be much down time after this Saturday's gig at Mauao either, with the brothers appearing on stage at the Katchafire gig in Rotorua on May 22.

So if you love your Maori/jazz/Aotearoa roots reggae, organic electric skunkstep or hard roots flavoured music make sure to get yourself down to Mauao on Saturday.

'You'll get to see two brothers who've playing and writing music together for decades and four wicked bands from Tauranga, Whakatane, and Sahsa and my hometown of Te Kuiti. It's going to be an awesome night.”

Regan and Sasha Perry with Tigerhour, The Black Skunk Tomb and FTW Band plays Mauao Performing Arts Centre in Mount Maunganui on Satuday, May 16. This gig is R18.

Tickets cost $15 on the door which open at 8pm, bands on stage from 9pm.
