There is a guy riding a penny-farthing bicycle from Bluff to North Cape at the moment.
He is using roads that were built for cars, and paid for in part by vehicle drivers.
He won't have third party insurance.
If he is an aggressive rider, he would do it in slow motion as he has one gear, no brakes, and poor stability.
He is also a guy who has paid taxes, owns and uses a car, and is doing a healthy activity that encourages community spirit.
If he fell off, he would presumably be covered by ACC.
Just the same as all the pedestrians for whom we provide extensive infrastructure at taxpayer expense, and most of whom are also vehicle drivers.
We share this world in multiple ways, and getting car drivers out on bikes occasionally would be a great solution to all the ridiculous whinging about cyclists that has been published lately.
