13 crashes in 3 hours: Police

Police have had enough of the poor driving behaviour shown on Waikato roads after dealing with 13 reported crashes this morning.

They are appealing to all motorists travelling throughout the Waikato today and for the rest of week to slow down and drive carefully.

They will now be stepping up their prevention and enforcement patrols and 'any breaches of the road laws will incur punitive action.”

'We're prompted to make this appeal by the fact that we have had 13 reported vehicle crashes in our district between 8am and 11am today.

'Fortunately there have been no fatalities but in one crash early this morning a driver in Te Kuiti had to be airlifted to Waikato hospital.”

The 13 crashes include this morning's crashes on State Highway 27 just north of the Kaihere Rd intersection, and on Paeroa Kopu Rd just south of Puriri.

Police say a common denominator were vehicles skidding off the road, which suggests too many people are driving too fast and inattentively for the road and weather conditions.

'We still have a couple of days of predicted foul weather so people need to slow down and be careful.

'There is no glaring pattern for the location as they're occurring in the city and in the rural area, but clearly people are failing to drive safely in the mainly wet conditions.”
