Creative streaks on show

Bethlehem College students are enjoying a colourful, fantastical and exciting end to their school year with a ‘wearable arts' show held at their events centre on Friday morning.

The robot category in the Bethlehem College wearable art awards was popular with the crowd.

College teacher Sarah Rigger says about 500 children participated in the event in which they designed, made and paraded the costumes.

She says it is an event that fits well with the Bethlehem College aim of building confidence in young people. She also says it's great for them to explore their creativity.

Making the costumes and planning for the event was a seven week exercise.

It was an ‘Awards Show' with six categories:
Aotearoa and Kiwiana
Recycle and Reuse
It's Fun to be a Kid
Celebrating Culture
Accessories – Masks, Hats and Bags
Teachers – Black Tie and Bling

Each class, or syndicate, made the decision as to which category/categories they would enter, based upon the particular science/technology or social science aspects of their units of regular work.
