Four Bay of Plenty schools are among the winners of a national road safety movie making competition held by the NZ Transport Agency.
Tahatai Coast School, Te Puke Primary School, Te Kura o Matapihi and Lynmore School in Rotorua are each awarded $500 in Noel Leeming vouchers for their 90 second road safety movie.
The two competition main winners were Renwick School in Marlborough and Snells Beach School in Warkworth.
Which schools won awards was decided by a prize draw of all entrants. The two top winners received 10 Flip HD video camcorders each.
To go in the draw, students had to make their own movie up to 90 seconds long on the topic of travelling to school safely.
NZTA education manager Jennie Gianotti says the competition spurred students into using creative skills from a range of subjects as they told a compelling message in a short space of time.
The schools are now able to use the videos in safety promotions to students and the wider community.
'I'd like to thank all the student groups who sent in entries,” says Jennie.
'They showed a lot of creativity and thought and I encourage the entrants to keep finding ways to get the message through to their peers.
'We want everyone to enjoy safe travel to and from school.”
