Young film makers scoop award

A short film with a message of: ‘plan ahead when going out to drink' has won Mount Maunganui College students Marie Purchase, Evelyn Hunter, Megan Burton-Brown and Emma Aiken a national award.

Their short film ‘Bad Dreams' is a winner at the Turners Short Film Awards 2010 with the ‘Best Depiction of a Theme Award'.

Mount Maunganui College students; Evelyn Hunter, Marie Purchase, Megan Burton-Brown and Emma Aiken won Best Depiction of a Theme in the Turners Short Film Awards 2010.

The film showed the chain of events that unravel on a night out partying depending on two different courses of action; one planning transport and the other without.
'It showed both sides of what can happen and shows how easy it is to plan before you party,” says Marie.
The students avoided making the film highly graphic like typical drink-driving advertisements and say they wanted to make it interesting, while encouraging people to think about the message.
With another year left at school the group wants to enter the awards next year.
'Hopefully when we leave school a younger group of students will keep doing it.”

The supreme award was won by Botany Downs Secondary College for the film ‘Drive'.
