Mayoral hopefuls seize opening

Inner city development, rate rise percentages, the need for a downtown rugby stadium and the safety of people at night time are among the issues all six Tauranga Mayoral candidates explored on Wednesday night.
They were attending the SunLive and 93.4 MoreFM Mayoral Debate held at No.1 The Strand.

The mayoral candidates each brought their own spark to the debate. See their opening addresses on video below.

The debate was hosted by MoreFM breakfast host Vinnie Aston and was attended by an invited cross section of the Tauranga community.
The six candidates: Stuart Crosby, Bill Faulkner, Mark Groos, Murray Guy, Hori Leaming and John Robson each gave opening statements to begin proceedings, before a question and answer panel session with the audience.
The videos below are of each candidate's opening statement.
The debate is to be broadcast in full on TV Central on Friday night, airing at 8.05pm - to be repeated on Saturday, September 25 at 2pm and on Sunday, September 26 at 10pm.

Mayoral hopefuls

There is only one candidate for Mayor worthy of support, and that is for re-election.I believe that with a significant number of new councillors elected to Council our present Mayor will be able to lead the city into a more productive next three years.Remember that the candidate on TECT board proposed changes that were roundly defeated by the public. What he proposes for Council, and for ratepayers will not work, just as similar ideas didn't work at TECT.No other candidate offers Tauranga a better deal than we have with the current Mayor - support Stuart!
