Nineteen Bay of Plenty students have the opporunity to forgo a portion of their university fees next year.
Year 13 students have the opportunity to win a scholarship worth $5750 to go towards tertiary study to be paid out over four years.
More than $100,000 worth of scholarship money is up for grabs thanks to the Bay of Plenty Education Trust.
The Trust has recently contacted principals from secondary schools up the coastal strip from Katikati to Opotiki to nominate recipients. The scholarships will be awarded at end of year school prizegivings.
The trust's chairperson Ses MacKinnon says scholarships are awarded annually to exemplary students who intend to begin study in the general fields of science and technology or emerging industries at a New Zealand tertiary institution next year.
The five larger colleges, Mount Maunganui, Otumoetai, Trident, Tauranga Boys' and Tauranga Girls', will receive two scholarships each.
The trust's charitable objectives include the advancement of education through the provision of grants, loans, scholarships, and the promotion of further education beyond secondary school.
It also aims to develop future leaders within Bay of Plenty communities.
