Getaway from winter with books

Is the winter weather getting to you? Are you yearning for a getaway? If the mind is willing, but the budget isn't, why not treat yourself to a holiday of the imagination?

Registrations for the International Library Getaway – Thames Coromandel District Council libraries' exciting new adult winter reading challenge – are now open.

Registrations are open for Thames Coromandel District Council libraries' International Library Getaway programme.

The International Library Getaway invites adults to read their way around the six continents of the globe as well as two additional continents: ‘Other Worlds' and ‘Oceans'.

The destination and type of books offered for reading are entirely up to the individual.

For example, you may choose to read a Morrocan cookbook, a South American travel memoir, and a work of fiction by a contemporary Australian author.

In addition to reading books across the world, participants are invited to various country-themed events at their local library, and encouraged to participate in activities based on their reading, such as share a recipe, research a news article.

Or for the artistically-inclined, develop a creative art-piece inspired by their reading

The new programme promises to be as fun and fulfilling as the libraries' previous adult programme, Rug Up and Read.

Winter reading challenges are a perfect way to get to know your local library, other people in your community and everything the library collections have to offer.

Registrations for International Library Getaway are limited, so contact your local TCDC library to secure a spot.

The International Library Getaway launches on Monday August 4, and runs for five weeks, to wrap up with a grand finale on Friday, September 12.
