A man is in custody after an alleged hit-and-run and fleeing driver incident in Tauranga.
Police were called to Kaweroa Drive, Tauriko, about 12.50pm after reports a person had allegedly been hit by a vehicle.
The car left the area before officers arrived.
Senior Sergeant Simon Betchetti said the victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Ambulance assistance was declined.
Soon after, police spotted the car alleged to be involved travelling on State Highway 29 and signalled the driver to stop.
The driver allegedly drove off.
Betchetti said police did not initiate a pursuit because the car was allegedly speeding and on the wrong side of the road.
“On Pyes Pa Rd, the car was successfully spiked.”

Betchetti said the driver abandoned the car and allegedly attempted to break into another vehicle.
“The occupant of the second vehicle is understandably shaken by this incident and we are providing them with support,” Betchetti said.
Several police cars were seen around a white sedan on Pyes Pa Rd/State Highway 36 near Pyes Pa Cemetery shortly after 2pm.
A dog was inside the car.
A witness at the nearby Four14 Espresso cafe told NZME he saw the car travelling on flat tyres along Pyes Pa Rd with police following it.
The witness, who spoke on the condition he was not named, said a blue ute pulled in front of the car, bringing it to a stop.
He said the driver got out of the car, lay on the road and was taken into custody by police.
Betchetti said the driver was arrested without incident.
Police are continuing inquiries and charges are being considered.
