$10k helps OTC old boy

A $10,000 scholarship is helping 18 year old Otumoetai College old boy Cory Malbon achieve his dream to study medicine at Otago University.
Cory won the Maori and Pacific Island Entrance Scholarship, which helped smooth the way for his first-year health sciences study, before he hopes to move into medicine.

Cory Malbon.

"The scholarship has meant that this year, in terms of finances, it's well sorted out," says Cory.
"It really takes the stress out and allows me to focus on what I'm trying to do for the year.
"It also gives me more motivation to go on and get into medicine. I'd feel I'd let a lot of people down if I didn't."
Cory says he is determined to make the grade in the highly competitive and intensive programme.
"The programme separates the kids out, and you can quickly tell who's putting in the work and who's not. But it's not all study either."
