Construction on Papamoa's Golden Sands Year 1 to 6 primary school is expected to begin on January 11 with the first 10 classrooms completed by October 2010 for a 2011 opening.
Chairman of the board of trustees Vince Butler says the school's opening role is expected to be between 150-250 pupils topping out at 450 after four years.

'All the administrative and office areas are being built to the appropriate size,” says Vince.
'The classrooms are being built in two stages with the first stage being completed by October next year. Then the second stage once this gets full.”
The Golden Sands School is to be on the intersection of Golden Sands and Wairakei Avenue in Papamoa East.
Designed by Ignite architects, the ‘heart' of the school will be the library and is described as vibrant, organic, stimulating and fun in the plans. It will be constructed by Marra.

The Establishment Board of Trustees is currently finalising the employment of the principal who will be on staff from April 1 next year, says Vince.
'We hope to have a decision by Christmas,” says Vince.
The Golden Sands School will be opening with 10 classrooms with the head teacher expected to find the staff before opening day.
Also expected by Christmas is the school logo or crest, which is being designed by a Papamoa graphic artist.
The enrolment zone for Golden Sands School is still being finalised by the Ministry of Education and there will be a meeting held by the ministry early in 2010, says Vince. Also beginning construction in January is the new Papamoa College in Tara Road.
