Celebrating the Oceans' 14

It was the perfect way to end a carnival that had it all.

The Oceans' 14 New Zealand under-14 surf lifesaving championships ended in Mount Maunganui on Sunday after four dramatic, contrasting days of competition.

A big easterly swell and onshore winds caused havoc, forcing organisers to hold races in Pilot Bay, Shark Alley and opposite Grove Avenue as they sought shelter for the nearly-900 junior surf athletes.

Luckily, Sunday dawned fine and the wind kicked around to the west, enabling all the finals to be held on the Main Beach in front of a big cheering crowd.

Omanu ended a 14-year wait, crowned overall club champions for the first time, but there was plenty of other celebrations from the 45 other clubs from around the country.

Tauranga production company Dscribe Media Services put together a video wrap to showcase the gripping final day.
