Dale Carnegie Training Waikato/Bay of Plenty is taking on four Bay of Plenty high school students to hone their communication and people skills. This is part of a new $24,000 scholarship programme, which entitles them to take part in a Dale Carnegie Course; an eight-week programme, which helps people build self confidence; gain people, communication and leadership skills; and learn how to reduce stress and maintain a positive attitude.
Emma Raymond, Aroha Hughes; (back) Joseph Mays and Dylan Seidel are the first of eight Western Bay of Plenty students who won scholarships to attend The Dale Carnegie Course. They are pictured with Dale Carnegie's Andrea and Michael Shaw, Sally Benning and Priority One's INSTEP manager Lyn Parlane.
Tauranga Girls' College student Emma Raymond, Mount Maunganui College's Aroha Hughes, Aquinas College's Joseph Mays and Dylan Seidel from Bethlehem College are the first four Year 13 students selected to receive the scholarships.
Dale Carnegie's Andrea Shaw hopes the programme will help the students bridge the gap between school life and entering the workforce.
'We always get adults saying ‘I wish I'd done this course 20 years ago'.”
Priority One facilitated the selection process through its INSTEP programme, which aims to connect Western Bay high schools with Bay businesses.
