School girls left stranded

Papamoa parents, who have children attending Tauranga Girls' College, are outraged their daughters are being stranded on the roadside as there is not enough room on the school bus.
Hundreds of Tauranga Girls' College students living in Papamoa depend on the bus to travel to the school on Cameron Road in Gate Pa each day.

Tauranga Girls' College students scramble for a place on the only school bus available to them.

Parents spoken to by SunLive say catching the school bus to the college has always been a struggle for their children but this is the first year students have been told there is not enough room.
Lucretia sends her daughter to Tauranga Girls' College and is upset the school did not inform her earlier about the problem.
'Enrolments are in early enough so they should have known how many students would be using the Papamoa bus.”
But Tauranga Girls' College deputy principal and bus coordinator Leonie Summerville says the school was only told at the beginning of November 2009 that the college would have access to one bus in 2010.
She says a letter was sent out to all parents in Papamoa when the school realised there was going to be a cut in the number of buses and a second letter was sent out last Friday.
Leonie believes about 60 students from Papamoa are missing the bus each day as a result of the bus restrcture.
The school is not responsible for the buses and were informed by the Transport Network towards the end of last year that the number of school buses available to students would be reduced, says Leonie.
In 2009, Papamoa students attending Tauranga Girls' College were able to access three buses.
One bus was exclusively for Tauranga Girls' College and any overflow could go onto the other buses.
The school is currently in negotiation with two bus companies to have a second bus provided and a mini bus from the school is being sent to Papamoa to pick up any overflow students until negotiations are finalised.
