Bay schools receive $2.2m

Three Western Bay of Plenty schools have received a combined funding boost of more than $2.2m from the government.
The funding is allocated for schools to build new classrooms and upgrade existing facilities.
Te Puke High School received $1.9m to build new classrooms and buildings and Matua School and Selwyn Ridge School received $232,121 and $123,057 respectively for the upgrade of existing buildings.

The local funding boost is part of a $29.8m package handed out to 27 schools across New Zealand.
Matua School principal Tracy Lloyd says the funding boost means the school can enhance the existing spaces within the school.
He says one of the options being considered is to extend the school hall so a stage can be built inside.
Minister of Education Anne Tolley says the funding will provide a significant boost for schools.
'I am delighted these schools will be able to start work on important building projects, giving them the opportunity to meet the needs of their growing rolls and upgrade their facilities,” says Anne.
She says schools are selected for funding through a ranking system, depending on their need for additional space and on building issues.
Tauranga MP Simon Bridges says new buildings will help Matua School meet roll growth and provide better facilities for local students.
'This funding follows a $41m property funding boost to 81 schools earlier this year as part of our infrastructure package.
We are delivering on our commitment to improve school property. This funding is a win win for local schools and local parents,” says Simon.
